"We should not turn our back on any of the things that lifts us all up on any of the things that lifts us all up on their local community," says Mark Madrid, an associate administrator for the Office of Entrepreneurial Development at the US Small Business Administration.

His father worked in the cotton industry in the Texas Panhandle, and Madrid saw an opportunity to instill family lessons in welding during his childhood business.

His parents started a Mexican-American welding business during Madrid's childhood, and he has since taken classes, competed in pitch competitions, and developed a solid business plan, reports the News Journal.

On March 20, 2024, Madrid helped celebrate Small Business Day 2024 at the University of Delaware, where he spoke about the challenges small businesses face and how centers like Delaware's Delaware Small Business Development Center help small businesses secure funding and training they need to succeed.

"We should not turn our back on any of the things that lift us all up on any of the things that lifts us all up on their local community," he said.
