RWJF and Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids Kick Off New Initiative to Cut Tobacco Usage


The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids introduced new collaborative efforts to shrink tobacco usage.

Compulsive tobacco use is the country's leading cause of preventable death. As the nation nears the 50th anniversary of the first Surgeon General’s 1964-report on tobacco, the new initiative will build on the progress that has been made in reducing tobacco use and is intended at winning the fight against a tobacco epidemic that still kills thousands of Americans, and costs nearly $100 billion in annual health care expenses.

Nonprofit impact investing firm, Acumen, has invested $1.2 million to KZ Noir, a Rwanda-based coffee processing company owned by Kaizen Venture Partners. The investment will equip KZ Noir the funds for working capital, debt refinancing, and capacity expansion.
