Marin City Controversy Flares Over Youth Cadet Program

A group called the VanGuardians of Marin posted the petition at Change.org on July 1.

The program aims to create a youth-led neighborhood safety team with a focus on first aid, financial literacy, public speaking, civic engagement and social activism.

As of Wednesday, the petition, "No Police in Marin City," remained online with more than 100 signatures.

Weston Mill-based social enterprise Surplus Rescue CIC (Community Interest Company) recycles and finds homes for unwanted furniture. To date, it has received “extensive amounts” of quality second-hand furniture including desks, pedestals, cupboards and office chairs from a former local authority office equipment – and wants to find them a good home.
