Collins Arrey, Tianya Hunter, and Thinh Nguyen are the first recipients of a new scholarship created in 2021 to help students aging out of Georgia's foster care system, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

According to a press release, the Fostering Education Scholarship was created to help students who would like to pursue a degree to offset the financial burden of earning a degree.

"The instability of life in foster care often proves to be a distraction from learning and school performance," the release states.

"Financial resources, mentorship, support, and stability are not commonly available to help these individuals complete degree programs that lead to well-paying, stable employment," the release states.

Arrey, Hunter, and Nguyen will receive $7,500 scholarships for the fall 2022 semester.

To truly deliver meaningful social change the leaders of the effort must share perspectives of the challenges faced by communities across the U.S. that can most appropriately come from members of those communities. Ashoka, through its All America initiative seeks to increase the diversity of social entrepreneurship practitioners.
