Founder and President of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Retire s

After 30 years, Ellen Lehman is stepping down as president of the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

The Tennessean reports the foundation she founded in her garage in Nashville, Tenn., has grown to $550 million in assets and awarded nearly $30 million in scholarship money to more than 10,000 students.

Lehman, a Nashville native, earned a master's degree at the London School of Economics and an MBA from Harvard Business School before returning to Nashville to start the foundation.

"That's like saying which child do you like the best," she says.

"There are so many different things we've done people never heard of and some people know a lot about," she adds.

"It's been a pleasure working with these people and seeing lots of dreams come true."

The CFMT board of directors has formed a search committee to find a new leader for the organization of 50 employees.

Lehman will continue in her role for six months, then will be honored throughout the rest of 2022 as the foundation celebrates the opening of its new headquarters.
