Nonprofits in Jackson, Miss., affected by the city's water crisis have a chance to get some relief.

The Community Foundation for Mississippi says it will provide up to $2,000 mini-grants to help reimburse charities for expenses during the crisis, which began in July and lasted until Sept. 15, WLBT reports.

"The interruption of business for a not-for-profit means working twice as hard for half the money," says Foundation President and CEO Jane Alexander. "We didn't feel they should have to pay for ice and water out of their pockets."

The deadline to apply is Oct. 12.
