Iowa West Foundation Board announces $3.9 million in grants

"We heard from so many people in Council Bluffs and surrounding communities who said housing is an issue," Brenda Mainwaring, president and CEO of the Iowa West Foundation, says in a press release.

"We want to assist individuals across that spectrum by collaborating with our nonprofit partners so more people can call our region home and love where they live."

The Des Moines Register reports the foundation recently awarded $3.9 million in grant and initiative funding to more than 20 nonprofits in the southwest Iowa region.

A $25,000 grant to Lending Link will provide opportunities for Council Bluffs residents to increase their financial security by reducing the need for payday loans.

A $200,000 grant to Together Inc. will fund the current operations of a food pantry that has distributed more than 1.5 million pounds of food since it opened in September 2021.

A $25,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha and Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs will address down payments on housing in Iowa and owner-occupied home repair.
