In 2023, the United Arab Emirates will become the "Year of Sustainability" in the Middle East, its president has announced.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan made the declaration ahead of the country's hosting of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the Paris Agreement on climate change, which will take place in Dubai from Nov.
30 to Dec.

"Effective climate action requires a shared vision and collective will," Sheikh Mohamed said in a statement, per the National.
"As host of COP28, we are committed to fulfilling our role as a global convener and will continue to support action and innovation in the field of sustainability."
The UAE has invested $50 billion in renewable energy and clean tech over the last 15 years, and plans to invest another $50 billion in the years ahead, its special envoy for climate change says, per Mashable.
