Youth-Led 'Road to Cop28' Event Set to Unify Uae Stakeholders Towards Climate Summit

"The youth of today are the climate leaders of tomorrow."

So says Sultan Al Jaber, minister of industry and advanced technology in the United Arab Emirates, which is hosting the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or COP 28, later this year.

The New York Times reports on the UAE's efforts to engage young people ahead of the event, which it says will be the country's first-ever youth-led COP28 event.

The March 15 event, which the UAE says will focus on "the priorities and principles underpinning COP28," will include a morning of workshops to "inspire, educate, and empower young students ages 7 to 15 to understand and tackle climate change," as well as an afternoon program that will include youth circles, debates, sustainability initiatives, and performances, per a UAE press release.

The Times notes the UAE's efforts are in line with its "long-term vision to position the country as a global leader in the fields of science, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship."
