The William Penn Foundation is donating $1 million to help disadvantaged Asian-Americans in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The donation is part of the foundation's Spark Change initiative, which aims to fight discrimination and poverty among Asian-Americans and other underrepresented groups.

According to the foundation's website, Asian-Americans Advancing Justice reported in 2013 that one in four Asian-Americans in the city live in poverty.

The president of the foundation, which has donated more than $100 million to communities of color over the last 15 years, says the donation will help the foundation "counter the potential for racial hate, discrimination, and cookie-cutter solutions to more complex problems."
