New Program For Middle Schoolers

Missouri's Kirkwood School District is hoping a new program will help its struggling middle schoolers catch up, the St.

Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Called Kirkwood Compass, the program will be offered to at-risk middle schoolers starting next year.

Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Matt Bailey says it could be behavioral, academic, or social-emotional issues.

"We really want to take a look at what options we have to provide those students with something different that's going to meet their needs," Bailey tells the Post-Dispatch.

The district has already hired a full-time teacher for the program.
