Derek Jeter Is Still an All-Star When It Comes to Helping Kids

When New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter retired from baseball in 2013, he and his father, substance abuse counselor Sanderson Charles Jeter, set up the Turn 2 Foundation to educate and encourage young people to avoid drugs and alcohol.

Since then, they've raised more than $34 million, NBC Sports reports, and last month, they hosted their annual golf tournament in the Bahamas to raise awareness and money for the foundation.

"My father and I started the foundation when I was still playing and Sharlee was still in school," Jeter tells Penta.

"Our dad was a drug and alcohol counselor by trade, and we felt that drugs and alcohol were a threat that can affect kids, no matter where they came from, what their family structure was, or what their background was.

It was a problem that would be an ongoing issue to tackle."
