Music Therapy Program Hosts Year-End Performances

Students in St.

John's County, Fla., got a chance to listen to some tunes over the weekend as part of a program that helps kids with disabilities.

The Sound Connections Music Therapy program, a collaboration between the First Coast Cultural Center and the St.

John's School District, offered performances in classrooms and a virtual show at First Coast Technical College, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.

The certified music therapist led performances and performed specially designed therapeutic songs and guitar with a wide variety of musical items and interactive touch boards for students.

The program helps kids with autism spectrum disorder, behavior challenges, speech and language impairments, traumatic brain injury, and visual impairment.

Each year, the center aims to raise $120,000 to fund the program in local schools.
