The United Arab Emirates' Sharjah Electricity, Water, and Gas Authority (SEWA) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the US Consulate General in Dubai to develop "sustainable and innovative solutions for energy production and management using advanced technologies," per a press release.

"The goal is to reduce carbon emissions, preserve the environment, and implement projects aligned with the highest environmental standards," said Abdullah Abdul Rahman Al Shamsi, SEWA's director-general, during a meeting with a delegation from the US Consulate General on Sunday.

The UAE is one of the world's fastest-growing economies, per the AP, and is home to more Americans than any other country in the Middle East.

The announcement comes ahead of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Poland next month.
