Central Coast Collaborative Seeks to Improve Education-To-Career Pathways

"Every Californian should have the freedom to succeed by obtaining real-life skills and fulfilling careersincluding those that don't require college degrees."

So says California Gov.

Gavin Newsom in praising a $18.1 million grant awarded to six counties on the state's Central Coast in an effort to improve education and career pathways for students.

The grant from the state's Community Economic Resilience Fund will go to the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, UC Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties, with Cabrillo College taking the lead on the project, reports the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

"The strength of this initiative lies in the unity of our coalition partners," says Maria Rocha Ruiz, an assistant vice chancellor of education partnerships at UC Santa Cruz, in a press release.

The project will focus on six career sectors: engineering and computer science, health, and science, technology, engineering, and math.

The press release says the goal is to "bridge educational inequities and dismantle structural barriers along the education-to-employment continuum."
