The Hook and Ladder Firehouse in Peekskill, New York, was founded in 1831 and is the city's second-oldest fire company, reports the Journal News.
Now, it's being repurposed into a community center.
State Sen.
Pete Harckham announced Monday that $50,000 of state funding has been awarded to the city for the design of its "Community HUB" campus, which will include a workforce development center, a professional restaurant training facility, two kitchen areas dining spaces, and an area for senior services, per the Peekskill-Cortlandt Patch.
"This funding will help jumpstart an initiative to create municipal space that will serve residents and business owners," Harckham says.
Mayor Vivian McKenzie says the space will be used "for youth, health enthusiasts, new families, people in need of specific services, or just community gathering spaces."
