"We will not stop the battle against lead until it is completely eradicated."
That's the message from the mayor of Toledo, Ohio, after the city was awarded a $1.05 million grant from the Ohio Department of Health to combat lead poisoning, the Toledo Blade reports.
The money will be used to fund a lead housing registry, community education, and outreach initiatives, as well as equipment and tracking software, per a press release from the city's Department of Housing and Community Development.
About $500,000 will be allotted for grants to aid about 50 units identified as having lead.
"It is 100% preventable through education, testing, and the removal of lead hazards from homes before anyone is exposed," Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz says.
