First Future of Learning Community Fest Celebrates Innovation at Asu

"We are driving change."

That was the message from Arizona State University's executive vice president for provost, Nancy Gonzales, in her opening remarks at the university's first Future Learning Learning Fest, held last week and this week in Tempe, the Arizona Republic reports.

"We are not just keeping pace with innovation," she said.

"We are driving change."

The event, put on by the university's Office of Innovation, was meant to show off the work of its faculty and students in the field of artificial intelligence, the Republic notes, but it also served as a chance for the university to show off its new robot mascot, Gobbler, to students and faculty.

Gobbler, a character from the video game Gobbler, was created by a team of researchers who wanted to create a character that was more like a human and less like a computer, the Daily Dot reports.

The Gobbler team worked with the university's computer science department to create a Gobbler that could "learn" by itself, the Daily Dot notes.

The Gobbler, which the Daily Dot describes as a "close approximation" of a human Gobbler, was shown to be more accurate than a human Gobbler when it came to
