Southeast Asia needs to ramp up its energy transition, and a new grant from the Rockefeller Foundation is going to help the Institute for Environment and Sustainability at Singapore's National University of Singapore do just that.

The two-year, $370,000 grant will help the IES create a new climate policy fellowship, as well as lead a series of dialogues with national and regional leaders on energy connectivity in the region, the New York Times reports.

"By strengthening capacity to deliver renewable energy from one country to neighboring countries' high-demand areas, this collaboration will not only improve regional energy flows, but also support countries' energy transition and development goals," IES Director BenjaminshoreCashore says in a press release.

The goal is "to accelerate regional energy connectivity by enhancing capacity to develop and integrate more effective policies," the Rockefeller Foundation says in a statement.

The IES will use the grant to "identify innovative policy mixes for effective and lasting climate policy pathways, crucial for closing the observed gaps between national climate commitments and the policies and legislation to achieve them," per the press release.
