The US government's Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has awarded a researcher at the University of Utah a three-year, $2 million grant to develop a mobile app that would help elderly patients manage their care, the Deseret News reports.
Dr.orie Butler's app would sync up with their electronic health record and would allow patients to submit their own reports, which would then be entered into an electronic health record that would be entered into a clinical decision support system.
The goal is to make it easier for doctors and patients to share information about each other's care decisions.
"It's a really cool idea," says a doctor on Butler's team.
"It's going to make it a lot easier for us to share information about what's going on with patients, and it's going to make it a lot easier for us to make decisions about what's best for them."
