Three women from Australia's Indian community have been named in the country's Order of Australia for their contributions to society.

Harinder Kaur, 29,Niharika Hiremath, 29, and Sakshi Thakur, 32, were among 737 Australians named in the Order of Australia for their services to the community in the country's annual list of people of honor, the Guardian reports.

Hiremath, a mental health advocate, is Australia's youngest recipient.

Thakur, a social entrepreneur, runs a nonprofit that teaches textile skills to women in the Indian territory of Puducherry.

"Some names are well-known, but the vast majority are not people who work tirelessly and selflessly to make a difference in our community," the country's governor-general said in a statement.

"I have been steadfast that the Order must reflect the diversity of our community."
