High school students in Iowa can now get a leg up on the rest of the country thanks to a nearly $500,000 FAA grant.

The grant will allow Iowa Lakes Community College to launch a course in drone piloting for high school students, as well as expand its aviation and airport management programs, the Iowa Capital Dispatch reports.

"We are thrilled to receive this grant from the FAA's Pilot Workforce Development Grant Program," says Tim Busch, director of the college's aviation program.

"We are excited to expand our drone and rotary wing programs while building a connection with area high school students and the aviation industry."
