SS/MLS is currently seeking a part-time Child Care Worker/Nightsfor its Psychiatric Residential Treatment Program.


The available schedule is Friday through Monday, 11:00 pm to 9:00 am.


This person is responsible for providing overnight care and services for the children served by Silver Springs?Martin Luther School; coordinating work within the department as well as with other divisions and departments; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responding to inquiries or requests for information.

Main responsibilities include the following:


  • Provides overnight care and services for the children served by Silver Springs?Martin Luther School of which the following are illustrative:

  • At the beginning of the work shift, becomes informed of which children are sleeping on the unit.

  • Ensures that all children sleep in their own beds and rest comfortably.

  • Checks each individual child (by looking at a body part) every 15 minutes; initials log sheets verifying child observation checks were completed.

  • Monitors and resets the motion detection system as needed throughout the night.

  • Remains fully awake and alert overnight; closely observes hallway in the interims between room checks; leaves all lights in the Living Room turned on.

  • Awakens enuretic/encopretic children as scheduled so that they may use the bathroom; changes soiled bed linens and launders same, as needed.

  • Supervises a pleasant and cheery wake-up routine for all children on the residential unit; ensures that children are properly dressed.

  • Updates unit night log, morning sheet, children's point sheets, and other paperwork as required each morning.

  • Communicates health needs or concerns to the EOD/RN.

  • Intervenes with acting-out children using appropriate (agency-trained) behavior management techniques; reports to the EOD/RN all critical incidents and records same on the Critical Incident Report (CIR) form.

  • Washes, dries, folds, and puts away all children's clothing and other laundry as required.

  • Straightens linen and hair care areas; maintains list of needed supplies for Residential Supervisor.

  • Assists in tidying up the unit, including the staff office.

  • Provides transportation for children for medical appointments or emergencies occurring during the shift.

Use of agency-approved therapeutic crisis intervention techniques is required.




Job Requirements

A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license with a clean driving record are required. Bachelor's degree in a human services field strongly preferred. Must have at least 2 years direct child-care experience. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills.
