Eric K. Shinseki, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, recently awarded more than $1.9 million in homelessness prevention grants to New Mexico counties as part of an effort to serve 1,300 homeless and at-risk veteran families.
Part of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, the grants will bolster the veteran agency's partnership with community nonprofits nationwide to provide veterans and their families long-term shelter and help them get their lives back in order.
