Kids Who Gesture Perform Well on Problem-Solving Tasks

In a new study soon to appear in the August 2013 issue of Developmental Psychology, San Francisco State University researchers found that young children who use gestures outdo their peers in cognitive tasks.

The researchers discovered that the gesturing children are more likely to make quick mental notes and assemble shapes accurately, which can be tricky for children younger than 5.
