In a study led by a team of researchers at Duke Medicine, kids who live in economically disadvantaged homes are more prone to smoke cigarettes and binge on other illegal substances than their wealthier peers.
The findings also show that economic strains that result to family problems about living expenses can wear down a child's self-control, which often leads to substance use. The findings are found in the current issue of Journal of Pediatric Psychology.
