New Breed of Social Enterprises Support Innovation in Education


A new breed of social enterprises is pushing efforts to relieve budgetary burdens and deliver inspirational education experiences.

Innovation is key to most of these social enterprises: Excite-Ed, Night Zookeeper, Forest Schools, and Enabling Enterprise. They are also all founded and managed by ex-teachers. It is imperative that new education technology companies either employ or are founded by actual educators, according to Night Zookeeper Chief Executive Joshua Davidson.

Village Capital announced the winners of the $50,000 prize awarded to social entrepreneurs who don’t “self-define as social  entrepreneurs”. The winners didn’t start out thinking of themselves as social enterprises.
