Cell and Animal Studies Could Enable Development of Effective Drugs for Addiction


The Scripps Research Institute's team of scientists has explored a combination of cell and animal studies that enable the development of effective drugs for addiction with fewer side effects.

The Journal of Biological Chemistry published the study, which features one active compound, known as 6'-GNTI, that targets the kappa opioid receptor (KOR). KOR plays a role in the release of dopamine, which is the focus for drug discovery efforts aimed at treating addiction, and impulse and personality disorders.
