Breastfeeding Linked to Lower Obesity Risk among Children in Japan

In a study conducted by Michiyo Yamakawa, M.H.Sc., of the Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Okayama City, Japan and his fellow researchers, breastfeeding is associated with decreased risk of obesity among schoolchildren in Japan.

Findings state that exclusive breastfeeding at 6 to 7 months of age can lower obesity risk compared with formula feeding. The study is published in the online August issue of JAMA Pediatr.
