In a report by Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (USDA HNRCA) at Tufts University and from the CIBER Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y Nutriciόn in Spain, a gene variant linked with type 2 diabetes development seems to interact with a Mediterranean diet pattern to prevent stroke.
The Mediterranean diet consists of olive oil, fish, complex carbohydrates and nuts. The Mediterranean diet appeared to compensate for genetic influence, observes author Dolores Corella, Ph.D., of the CIBER Fisiopatologia de la Obesidad y Nutriciόn.
