The social enterprise sector, despite the dismissive legislation to empower social enterprise, has grown particularly in Rhode Island.

Industry leaders and community officials are increasingly providing opportunities for the economically disadvantaged residents of Rhode Island. The state recognizes social enterprise in alleviating poverty, developing communities and economy, shrinking social service spending, attracting businesses and inciting job creation.
