Children Learning Second Language Alters Brain Development


A new collaborative study between the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital-The Neuro at McGill University and Oxford University documents that children learning a new language can have a significant bearing on the development of their adult brain.

The study indicates that the task of receiving a second language after infancy propels new neural growth and connections among neurons in ways seen in getting complex motor skills. The findings appear in the journal Brain and Language.
