Grant giving by foundations had taken a fall in 2009 due to the crash of financial markets. However, more grants were distributed by foundations especially those based in Pittsburgh in 2010 signifying ongoing economic recovery.

According to the executive director of FISA Foundation, the foundation's annual grants budget is a reflection of its endowment.
