Outsourcing Social Services Can Put the Most Vulnerable at Risk


With the expansion of the HB 1009 bill that covers a wide provision to allow the Mississippi Department of Human Services to privatize functions by contracting out to private companies has spurred controversy.

State rep. Jim Evans points out that outsourcing aid for people can't work. It's designed to make a profit. Evans had joined other legislators to stop what they believe as the potential corporate takeover of a public agency supplying essential services to vulnerable citizens.
