Volunteer Hackathons Bring Tech-Savvy People, Nonprofits Together

Hosted by an organization called ReAllocate, a low-profile volunteer hackathon connected techies and nonprofit organizations together to address the income gap, community space projects, and programming.

The weekend-long, all-day, do-good hackathon was run by ReAllocate's four entrepreneurs where data scientists, designers and back-end engineers can work with nonprofits. The event spurred beyond in-person intensives by launching a website to connect skilled volunteers with worthy projects.

Acumen Invests on Rwanda-based Coffee, Helps Rural Women

Nonprofit impact investing firm, Acumen, has invested $1.2 million to KZ Noir, a Rwanda-based coffee processing company owned by Kaizen Venture Partners. The investment will equip KZ Noir the funds for working capital, debt refinancing, and capacity expansion.
