Weatherizing Homes to a Uniform Level Can Gain $33 Billion in Annual Energy Savings


Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) researchers discovered in a latest study that upgrading airtightness or weatherizing homes to a uniform level could gain up to $33 billion in annual energy savings.

Berkeley Lab researchers found that the largest potential savings are in the hottest and coldest climates. They also learned that the IECC standard offered most of the benefit that the tighter standards would yield.
