Part of the Obama Administration’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative endeavors to redevelop afflicted assisted housing programs and convert the neighborhoods surrounding these projects into mixed-income, high-opportunity communities.
The Choice initiative is first funded in 2010. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) committed $122 million to the first five Choice implementation sites, which are based in Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Seattle.
