A Brief Look at the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative


Part of the Obama Administrationís Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative endeavors to redevelop afflicted assisted housing programs and convert the neighborhoods surrounding these projects into mixed-income, high-opportunity communities.

The Choice initiative is first funded in 2010. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) committed $122 million to the first five Choice implementation sites, which are based in Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Seattle.
