In a study published online in Psychopharmacology, Rutgers University researchers found that the initial positive feelings of intoxication quickly fade and replaced by negative emotional responses whenever drug levels drop.

To have a better insight into human addiction and substance abuse, the researchers analyzed addiction among animals, stating that animals are critical in addiction research as human responses prove unreliable.
