Charities Partnering with Social Enterprises

According to charity lawyer Stephen Lloyd, charitable organizations should welcome the growth of social enterprises since its boom in the social enterprise market is the way to counter the seizure of public services by corporate groups.

Lloyd, a senior partner at Bates Wells Braithwaite, pondered on the question 'Social enterprise: friend of foe?' and explained that many charities viewed social enterprises as a wolf in sheep's clothing, and hence a foe. But Lloyd urged that charities should view non-charitable social enterprises as "comrades-in-arms".
