New Ways to Encourage Physical Fitness Among Urban Girls

In a research presented at the Obesity Society conference in Atlanta in November, Wanda Thompson, an assistant professor at the Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden, examines how African American women and girls living in urban areas regard physical activity.

The research is entitled "What Black Mothers and Daughters Say about Being Physically Active." According to Thompson, church fitness programs are proven beneficial and are an alternative to "promote physical fitness in a community to ensure that young girls grow into healthy women."
