Income Mixing Across Neighborhood and Geographic Scales


An Urban Institute report takes on a planning and policy tool called income mixing indicating the rationale, trends, policies, practice, and research for more inclusive neighborhoods and metropolitan areas.

The report reviews the existing literature and theory on the effects of income mixing at the neighborhood scale and its effects, assesses the level and changes in income separation, shows that policy and practices to mix incomes have advanced, and provides ways to advance understanding of the effects of income homogeneity and income mixing.
