Homeless Count in Lucas County


The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development requires each county to do an annual homeless count in order to determine appropriate funding for local homeless services/

This week, volunteers in Lucas County searched the area with flashlights, maps, and peanut butter sandwiches. Dozens of volunteers scoured streets, empty buildings, parks, and parking lots just to identify those who do not have a home.

Funding for social enterprises and housing associations are extremely lacking. Nick O’Donohoe, Chief Executive, Big Society Capital points out that there is a need to “build bigger, more stronger, more resilient social enterprises” because they are “critical to growth and prosperity and quality of life in our community.”
