A Sea-Oat Volunteer Planting Campaign for Dune Restoration Effort

Jason Hyder, Surfrider Foundation Sebastian Inlet chapter’s volunteer coordinator, led a sea-oat planting campaign in defense of the dunes.

Together with a crew of 14 Brownies from Longleaf, they dug holes to plant sea-oat shoots roughly 18 inches apart along eroded stretches of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge and beachside Brevard County during a two-day Sow Yer Oats dune restoration effort.

3 Social Enterprises Earn Honors at Social Enterprise Award

Three social enterprises were recognized at the 2013 President’s Challenge Social Enterprise Award for their major contributions to society. SATA CommHealth and Bliss Restaurant landed Social Enterprise of the Year titles, while Bettr Barista Coffee Academy bagged the award for Social Enterprise Start-up of the Year.
