Shelter House, which opened a MAP (the Kwae Kii Win Centre) in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 2012, has approached a different style in helping the chronic homeless and people with alcohol problems.
According to Patty Hajdu, executive director of Shelter House, they have recognized that abstinence-based housing and treatment did not meet the needs of some people. The house provides beds for people with severe alcohol dependence that have been living on the streets or in emergency shelters and have a high rate of police confrontations.
