Study on U.S. Lawn Care Reveals Similarities, Differences Vital to Urban Sustainability


A new study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) reveals that lawn care practices across the country had fewer similarities than they expected.

The project is funded by grants from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) MacroSystems Biology Program and Long-Term Ecological Research Program. According to Peter Groffman of the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook, N.Y., suburban and urban lawns "occupy an extensive area in the U.S. and have effects, good and bad, on environmental quality, and on human quality of life."
