Links in Residential Location, Transportation Access and Employment Outcomes between Housing Voucher Recipients


Gathering information from the Moving to Opportunity for Fair Housing program (MTO) and the Welfare to Work Voucher program (WTW), a new Urban Institute study delves into the connection between transportation access, residential location and economic opportunity for housing voucher recipients.

The findings sweepingly highlight the positive role of automobiles in outcomes for housing voucher participants. If Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) identifies which of its households had cars, it could develop new programs and partnerships to help families become economically self-sufficient.
