Fighting Climate Change with Algae Farms


Italian architect Cesare Griffa has developed a system that can quickly grow and harvest micro-algae to help fight climate change and create products used for energy, food, cosmetics, or pharmaceuticals.

Griffa has designed an algae-filled structure called the WaterLilly system, which covers the façade of a building. It's another innovation in urban farming where, according to Griffa, "could become clever photosynthetic surfaces that respond to the current state of climate warming."
