U.S. Ups Welfare Programs, But Help for Neediest Drops


Krieger-Eisenhower Professor of Economics at the Johns Hopkins University, Robert A. Moffitt, learned that United States has upped its welfare program spending.

However, Moffitt found that aid for single parent families with the lowest levels of earnings has dropped. The findings were presented at the Population Association of America's annual meeting in a keynote address titled The Deserving Poor, the Family, and the U.S. Welfare System. The report is set for 2015 publication in the journal Demography.
