A New Law that Awards Incentives to Employ the Homeless


A new law passed during the 2014 General Session of the Utah Legislature enables businesses to receive tax incentives for hiring homeless people.

These tax credits to businesses will amount up to $2,000 per homeless person employed per year. Called the Tax Credit Amendments bill - House Bill 140, it serves to offer incentives for employers to hire homeless people, where such employers must heed by "specific requirements, such as complying with all state, federal and local employment requirements related to the person who is homeless."

The Charities Aid Foundation has set up a scheme, called the Social Enterprise Assist, that will render interest-free loans of up to £10,000 each to help social enterprise start-ups.
